The Future

Buskers is a musical about a group of down-and-outs on the streets of Birmingham, England. Set in the 1990s it looks at the criminality of war and insecurity in general. It follows the fortunes of Lord Ronald Macdonald a self-acclaimed lord and his sidekick, Garbie, a mute tramp with a mouthorgan, who his ‘lordship’ pimps for sympathy money. Also in this motley bunch of homeless entertainers is Poppa Piccolina, a shell-shocked Falklands’ veteran, and the brazen Bony Mona, an Irish woman with herbal wisdom and strong desires. Their lives are changed when Saitan, a guitarist kicked out of a Lancashire rock-band, joins the group.

Two students, Kelly, (philosophy), and Philippa, (music) busk to pay their fees. Philippa has a crush on conductor, Simon Rattle, and Kelly takes up art-classes. Saitan gets work as a model and their paths cross, not for the first time.

Questions remain to be answered.

Is Lord Ronald really a lord?
Did Poppa Piccolina poison his wife?
Do Saitan and Kelly have similar desires?
Can Bony Mona work her magic on Saitan?
What, or who, does Jack the Hand want to get his hands on?

Some things are not funny. But still we laugh.
